The mission of District 19 Specialized Children’s Services is to provide a comprehensive range of quality mental health and substance abuse services to children and their families in the community. Master’s and Bachelor’s level clinicians who have the education and experience to provide quality treatment to seriously emotionally disturbed or substance abusing youth staff the programs. Our purpose is to offer intensive mental health and substance abuse treatment counseling services to at-risk youth and their families. For more information, or to make a referral, please contact the Specialized Children’s Services Manager at the number above.
Specialized Children’s Services consists of three separate, but interrelated programs for children and adolescents in the District 19 service area:
The Juvenile Corrections Program serves youth referred by the 11th and 6th District Court Service Units. Juvenile Corrections clinicians provide substance abuse and mental health counseling and case management to youth in Crater Youth Care Commission. The clinicians provide assessment and intake services, as well as individual, family, and group therapy. Psychiatric services are also available to consumers.
The Therapeutic Day Treatment Program serves youth in the Greensville County School System. The Day Treatment Program is provided in sessions of two or more hours per day in order to provide therapeutic interventions, which include evaluation, medication education and management, opportunities to learn and use daily skills and to enhance social and interpersonal skills (e.g. problem-solving, anger management, community responsibility, increased impulse control and appropriate peer relations) and individual, group, and family psychotherapy/counseling. The goal for the program is to teach and reinforce appropriate social skills and behaviors to ultimately reduce the risk of more restrictive educational placements, out-of-home placements, hospitalizations, and judicial system and/or social service involvement.
School-Based therapists provide individual and group counseling services to elementary, middle and high school students. The therapist provides both mental health and substance abuse services to students experiencing a wide range of emotional and behavioral difficulties. School-Based Therapy Services are currently available throughout the District 19 catchment area, depending on each school district's needs.
